A US admiral to Sri Lanka today, strengthening bilateral defense cooperation

Marking the highest level military visit to Sri Lanka since 2021, Admiral Steve Keller, a 4-star US Navy admiral and Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, will arrive in Sri Lanka today (10th), US Ambassador to Sri Lanka The office has announced. During this visit, Admiral Kaylor will reaffirm the strong partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka for a strong, sustainable, free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Admiral Keeler will engage in discussions with senior Sri Lankan officials about the growing security challenges in the Indian Ocean region, enhancing awareness of maritime zones, strengthening cooperation in disaster response, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to supporting Sri Lanka against international threats, and discussing the enhancement of cooperation between the U.S. and Sri Lankan military forces.

The visit underscores the United States’ strong commitment to strengthening security ties with Sri Lanka, a key partner in promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

As a flag officer, he served as the Director of Naval Training at the United States Navy Command, Director of Operations (13) at the United States Indo-Pacific Command, Deputy Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet, Commander of the United States 3rd Fleet, and Director of Strategy, Plans, and Policy (J5) at the Joint Staff. He assumed command as the Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet on April 4, 2024.
